Some natural causes:
- The release of methane gas from artic tundras and wetlands
- Greenhouse gases such as methane gas cause heat to build up in the Earth's atmosphere
The Earth experiences a cycle of climate change every 40,000 years
Some manmade causes:
- Burning fossil fuels (which causes pollution)
- When fossil fuels are burned, they release carbon dioxide which is a greenhouse gas
- Mining coal and oil release methane gas
- The large population means the need for more food and more transportation
- More food means more livestock which means more methane being released into the atmosphere
- Also, manure contains methane
- More transportation means more cars which means more fossil fuels are being burned up to fuel our cars
- Also, the greater the population means there are more people exhaling carbon dioxide
- Many of the trees that would be taking up this carbon dioxide to use for photosynthesis are being cut down so we now have an excess amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere
